Google Page Speed is an insight tool for measuring page performance based on download speeds. The Google Page Speed Insights tool fetches the URL of a page twice – once for mobile users and once for desktop users. It checks for page performance best practices such as optimized images, visible content, server response times, enabled compression, and minified CSS, JavaScript, HTML and other site loading optimization opportunities.

The tool then grades the page speed on a scale of zero to 100 and describes which elements are optimized and where it found potential for optimization. Improvements based on the recommendations would be completed iteratively and should include re-testing using the Google Page Speed Insights tool. Additionally, users should make sure to test multiple page types and not just the homepage as different page templates may have different optimization opportunities.
