A 404-Error Page is the page a website displays when a user requests to visit a site that’s unavailable. This page shows up when a link is broken or when pages have recently been removed from a website. A 404-Error or ‘Page Not Found’ message is an HTTP standard status code that indicates the server could not find the page URL that a user came to on a website. It is recommended that every website have a custom 404 page, essentially one where the 404 page includes the following critical components: the site’s primary navigation, a friendly message explaining what the 404 page represents and options for making contact or getting help. Additionally, the custom 404 page can provide some brand personality and often can contain some humorous reference to diffuse the fact that a user somehow ended up on a bad URL.
