Google Caffeine: A Comprehensive Analysis

google-caffeineGoogle has released a new version of Google which is being called Google Caffeine. Google officially calls this a “next-generation architecture for Google’s web search”. It’s being widely reported that this new version is faster than the older version. For most of us, though, we will not notice an increase in speed.

Because most website owners would be interested, I have compiled a comprehensive list of what appears to have changed in the new Google Caffeine and have made a list. Since Google Caffeine is still rather new, this list is certainly subject to change as we go, so I will do my best to keep it updated as appropriate.

Some additional tools that are worth noting:

Compare Google Caffeine and the normal or “old version” of Google: http://www.comparecaffeine.com/

We appreciate all the feedback from people who searched on our Caffeine sandbox.

Based on the success we’ve seen, we believe Caffeine is ready for a larger audience. Soon we will activate Caffeine more widely, beginning with one data center. This sandbox is no longer necessary and has been retired, but we appreciate the testing and positive input that webmasters and publishers have given.

I’ve read that Google Caffeine is going to put more emphasis on websites that keep their material fresh using relevant content. And penalize websites that have become stagnant for a long period of time.

In other words, if there’s no detectable activity within a certain time period, say a year or so, the site will get dropped into the recesses of the Internet. Have you heard anything similar?

Best Regards,

Steve
